The Learning Equilibrium

This is a recent graphic design iteration I had with ChatGPT. I generated this conversational text with GPT-4o, OpenAI’s large-scale language-generation model. My role was client/designer and ChatGPT was developer. Based on initial prompt and goal, ChatGPT generated an image and gave me text options of style, which I reviewed and then provided updated brief through prompts. ChatGPT responded with updated image and the iteration process continued till completion of task. The conversation took about 5 minutes, produced 6 images with the 6th one being the profile image I desired.

The Iteration

You said: I want to build a research assistant by providing structured queries at each step. I want to call it 'Researcher GPT’.

Epilogue

So that was a couple of days ago. As it turned out, I hadn’t saved the images nor the final one. I had saved the conversation though. So I figured I will try to recreate it. This time, I gave one initial prompt crafted from the original conversation:

"Could u generate a profile image for a research assistant that provides structured queries at each step. I want to call it 'Researcher GPT’. The image should connect thinking process with books or data. Like a human brain + an AI representation + a book or something that represents a knowledge area ? A human brain with one half being organic and the other half digital, symbolizing AI. Result? It gave me the desired image in less than 10 seconds. There was a very minor difference between the original image and the regenerated one.

As I am learning, the prompt is the key, like in any conversation in life. Whether it takes a minute, a day, or a week to achieve a design goal with AI, it is important for me to know what I want, how I visualise it and how I communicate it to the AI platform.
